There are many reasons for becoming a pilot. Maybe your reason for being a pilot is strictly for pleasure. There are countless pilots who simply attained their licenses for the shear pleasure of flying. Perhaps you would like your license in order to sight-see. Maybe you want to fly your family or friends to a nearby town for dinner, or take a trip to the coast to see the ocean and play at the beach. There are different options for the pleasure flier, from a Recreational Pilot Certificate to a Private Pilot Certificate.

Maybe you own your own business and want a way of getting to other cities and towns in your area. Perhaps you have considered buying your own plane and using it to go to meetings to further your business success.

Are you the more adventurous type? Do you go to airshows and long to be able to perform the precision flying demonstrated in aerobatics? There are schools that train pilots in this type of flying. You could be amazing crowds with your barrel rolls and loops!

Maybe you have longed to fly for a career. Pilots are needed in many areas for many jobs. Some of these occupations include cargo flying, mail carrying, rescue and fire-fighting operations, flight instruction, sightseeing, aerial work such as photography and oil pipeline inspections, wildlife monitoring, and the traditional occupations everyone thinks of when they think of pilots: airline transportation.

After looking over the reasons for being a pilot, you gotta ask yourself what reasons there could possibly be for not being a pilot. Do you fear that you may be too old? There are many pilots out there flying well into their 70's and 80's. Some of these pilots still work in occupations such as flight instructing where their experience is extremely valuable! I saw a man in his 70's doing aerobatic flight! You don't need to be young to fly an airplane anymore than you need to be young to drive a car.

Do you look in the cockpit of an airplane at all of the gauges and gadgets and think to yourself, "That look's way to complicated for me to learn?" Well you couldn't be further from the truth! Flying an airplane is NOT complicated and almost anyone can learn how. When learning to fly you will be taken step by step through every inch of the aircraft until you know and understand each piece of it and each skill in controlling it. And it doesn't take forever, either! Many people learn to fly an airplane in under 60 hours!

Do you fear the "enormous cost" of flying? Although prices are different depending on where you go and what type of flying you intend to do, just getting your Private License can usually be under $8000.00. Think about it. If your purpose is for pleasure think of the cost of that new boat you were wanting to buy. You will probably pay quite a bit more than $8000.00. Then you will have to maintain it and pay for any repairs and fuel as long as you own it.

Use that money to get a pilot license! The money you save on the boat purchase and the maintenance and upkeep could be used for aircraft rentals or even put away to buy your own plane!

Worried about how to pay for flight school? There are many financing options available through lenders and there are also schools that will finance you. There are even schools that will allow you to pay as you go or make regular payments to them for instruction.

Why should you fly?  The real question is why shouldn't you! If this is something that you want and dream of then go get it!
